INTELLIGENCE: THE WINNING WEAPON OF MAN (10)
Esso non segna solo l'inizio della rivoluzione scientifica, ma fu anche, e soprattutto, una rivoluzione del pensiero: moriva un modo di pensare linked to concrete things and another was born that she felt free to transcend reality to overcome it.
This was the result of a collective effort of all generations that have occurred in human history, which have developed slowly, but gradually, new habits of mind.
These habits of mind "even though they are made by individuals are not created by them: that only great men can wear them with grace and ease, but none of them is able to build one.
" They are the product of society. I the work of an infinite number of obscure men and women, without claiming to win a place in what is called the history of thought.
They were interspersed with long periods of stagnation, regression to lower levels and great leaps forward.
Although so far we have spoken man, it is clear that these achievements were the end product of some special populations, for a variety of reasons, which we discuss later, were far more advanced in the development of mental structure.
Suffice it to say that the Iron Age, to give just one example, occurred in 3000 BC in Mesopotamia, and only 500 in Rome in 50 AD in southern Germany.
But even if they had a rather low velocity, these achievements are propagated everywhere and become the heritage of all mankind, as all people progressed in their level of mental structure.
"Ideally, the social tradition is that man today is supposedly the heir of all ages and inherits all the experience accumulated by his predecessors.
" This ideal, however, is far from being realized. Today humanity form a company, but is divided into several separate companies, all the available evidence suggests that this division was no less, in fact it was larger in the past, can penetrate as far as archeology "(Child, 1949:21).
